Image Of You

You Say, You Say
There's Something Wrong With Me
You Say, Why Can't I Be Right?
I'm All Dried Out Inside
But Your Squeezing Me Tight
I Can Still Remember
Once It Was Me In Love
Now Your Here Squeezing Me
Wanting Me To Be

An Image Of You

You've Taken From Me
To Satisfy Your Greed
I've Been Too Sunk, Too Light For Your Touch
Now Your At The Core
And it's Too Hard For Your Grasp
Too Solid For Your Scheme
Watch Me, Step Out Of Your Shadow
Full In The Sun Once More
Look At My Face
The Glare Is Too Strong
Reflecting Your Disrespect
Now Your Seeing Me

I've seen it all

~ You haven't seen elephants, kings or Peru!
- I'm happy to say I had better to do

~ What about China? Have you seen the Great Wall?
- All walls are great, if the roof doesn't fall!

~ You've never been to Niagara Falls?
- I have seen water, its water, that's all...

~ The Eiffel Tower, the Empire State?
- My pulse was as high on my very first date!

~ And the one you will marry?
- To be honest, I really don't care...

I've seen it all, I've seen the dark
I've seen the brightness in one little spark.
I've seen what I chose and I've seen what I need,
And that is enough, to want more would be greed.
I've seen what I was and I know what I'll be
I've seen it all - there is no more to see!

You've seen it all and all you have seen
You can always review on your own little screen
The light and the dark, the big and the small
Just keep in mind - you need no more at all
You've seen what you were and know what you'll be
You've seen it all - there is no more to see!

Twilight

In early evening my cell flares up.
Thin shadows slide down the gray walls.
He who cries out in mutiny exhausts into a dream.
The brown stillness sweeps over like a gentle wave.

And often a frosted light fills the choked room.
Figures beckon you to the spiritless circle
where the dance of the heavy coats dissolves into silence.
Dawn breaks into a ringing of bells.

And suddenly, like light in darkness, the real truth broke in upon me; the simple fact of Man, which I had forgotten, which had lain deep buried and out of sight; the idea of community, of unity.

Dark Streets

Walking through dark streets,
the cold is looking for some way to stroke my skin.
My body is shaking, my knees are weak,
intense emotions overflowing me…

I try to find myself, I try to move on,
don't know where I am, please carry me home…

 I try to find myself,
I try to move on, don't know where I am,
please carry me home…

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar

We are never so defensless against suffering as when we love / What we call happiness in the strictest sense comes from the (preferably sudden) satisfaction of needs which have been dammed up to a high degree / One is very crazy when in love / Sadism is all right in its place, but it should be directed to proper ends / Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar / Love and work... work and love, that's all there is

Niquita

my rising voice invokes the dust,
as arrows fly I'll stand by,
impenetrable, unsiegeable, beset on all sides,
we'll escape, we'll escape unscathed,
to the boats, to the boats, to the boats...

We set sail for the farthest shore, but we got more
had we pushed oars, had the muscles sore, but we got more.
Taken the anchor up, let our lids down, this is what we found.
Taken the anchor up, let our lids down...

Grazing Horse

Many lights up today
Many lights up this way

What is this road here,
Where have I come?

I am a rich man
I am a very rich man
I have good pants on
Stitched and stitched;
I am in stitches
I am laughing at you
I am in britches

I've written books for you
I held my own for you
Where is my tongue?

I am no more workhorse
I am no more workhorse
I am no more workhorse
I am no more workhorse

I am a grazing horse
I am a grazing horse
I am your favorite horse

Out And Away

These streets are lined with pavements
The same on which you came and went
I'm not the one to make a fuss

Will you miss me at all?
Will you wake up and feel my breath against your neck?
And when you stand alone in corners at discotheques
Hoping for someone
Would you settle for me or would you rather be alone?

Spent our last seconds in silence
You let go of my hand
While we waited for the elevator
To take you down and out and away
Took me three weeks to figure out what to say

You didn't even have the decency
To add no more after I don't want you

It could be anyone
Anyone but you

Heaven Can Wait

She’s sliding, she’s sliding down to the depth of the world

Heaven can wait
and hell’s too far ago
Somewhere between
what you need and what you know
And they’re trying to drive that escalator into the ground

She’s hiding, she’s hiding on a battleship of baggage and bones,

There’s thunder, there’s lightening in an avalanche of faces you know

Charlotte Gainsbourg
