"THE MEDITERRANEAN WE SHARE"
Twenty-five photographs from MEDASSET's Amateur Competition on show at the Athens International Airport (16/1 - 30/4/2012)
Athens International Airport and ΜΕDASSET (Mediterranean Association to Save the Sea Turtles) welcome travellers and airport visitors to the Amateur Photography Exhibition "The Mediterranean we Share".
This is MEDASSET's second photography exhibition to be held at the airport, offering a range of highly individual views into the world of the Mediterranean Sea. The exhibition will be open to the public from January 16 to April 30 2012, in the airport’s Art and Environment Centre / Departures Level / Entrance 3 and is accessible to all passengers and airport visitors, on a 24-hour basis.
The exhibition's 25 photographs stood out in MEDASSET's online competition , held from November to December 2011. The aim of the overall project is to raise public awareness about Our Sea: The Mediterranean. One hundred and thirty-eight amateur photographers submitted 350 photographs. An online public vote narrowed the field down to 60 images and a judging committee, made the final selection of 25 images.
Sea turtles threatened with extinction in the Mediterranean hold a special place in the exhibition as flagship species and ambassadors of marine biodiversity in need of protection. Photographs from MEDASSET’s 25 years of ongoing conservation work across the Mediterranean are also on display.
