Black heart

spring is frozen now I'm stuck in low
wrapped with wire, tapped to the heart
can't find no poison, now I've got no cure
(the) fangs are stuck inside my skin

Payne county line
watching unjust claims
one man's righteousness is another man's
long haul, sentence carried out
long haul, counting the miles
to the four corners of the world

spring is rusted shut, (faith's) coiled and cracked
apparitions worth their weight in gold
scratched in metal, name erodes away
hands are scarred, heart is charred
burnt though, and ashen

trip on fence post line
sifting through the remains
one man's close pursuit is another man's
last chance, make it through the divide
last chance, suffer the weight or get buried by this
black heart, sweeping over the land
black heart, crawling its way
to the four corners of the world

The Newspaper Show

The Newspaper Show

Artists:
Dimitrios Antonitsis, Alexandros Vasmoulakis, b., Tjorg Douglas Beer, Apostolos Georgiou, Konstantin Kakanias, Elias Kafouros, Paris Koutsikos, Lucas Lenglet, Dafni Barbageorgopoulou,
Margarita Myrogianni, Socrates Socratous, Sofia Touboura,
Gabriel Vormstein, Tao Xue

The Breeder presented the group exhibition “The Newspaper Show” with works by young international artists whose central core was the newspaper.

Contrary to the digital revolution and the economic recession that threatens the printed media with extinction, the artists with their own extraordinary ways assisted for the perpetuation of the medium.

Appropriations of printed matter, most commonly newspapers first appeared in the Synthetic Cubism of Picasso, Braque and Juan Gris, in 1912. A century ago it was a radical concept: ephemera intended for disposal incorporated into fine artwork that was expected to have timeless value.

Fifty years later Pop and Arte Povera artists took up the enterprise, with different objectives but undiminished impact. And although the conceptual premises behind the use of found printed matter may have changed over the decades, its appeal to artists perseveres.

The artists that participated in the show used the newspaper either as a raw material or as a conceptual canvas for the work that they presented.

Socrates Socratous coated the gallery walls with pages of Cypriot newspaper “New Times” from 1960-1974 that he collected from a military outpost in the green line of Nicosia.

The Junta and the coup in Cyprus, Vietnam war, the man on the moon, Middle East and Cuba make headlines along with other news that aren’t far from today’s reality.

He, Is Praying For Us

This huge new 600m² mural by Pavlos Tsakonas, Manolis Anastasakos and the Kretsis crew inspired by Albrecht Dürer - 1508 (praying hands) is called "He, is praying for us,"

Albrecht Dürer (21 May 1471 – 6 April 1528) was a German painter, printmaker, engraver, mathematician, and theorist from Nuremberg. His prints established his reputation across Europe when he was still in his twenties, and he has been conventionally regarded as the greatest artist of the Northern Renaissance ever since. His vast body of work includes altarpieces and religious works, numerous portraits and self-portraits, and copper engravings. His woodcuts, such as the Apocalypse series (1498), retain a more Gothic flavor than the rest of his work. His well-known works include the Knight, Death, and the Devil (1513), Saint Jerome in his Study (1514) and Melancholia I (1514), which has been the subject of extensive analysis and interpretation. His watercolors mark him as one of the first European landscape artists, while his ambitious woodcuts revolutionized the potential of that medium.  [ source ]

American Buffalo

American Buffalo / Αμερικάνικος βούβαλος

American Buffalo is a 1975 play by American playwright David Mamet which had its premiere in a showcase production at the Goodman Theatre, Chicago. After two more showcase productions, it opened on Broadway on February 16, 1977. Critic Frank Rich called it "one of the best American plays of the last decade.

As is emblematic of Mamet's writing style, the play's dialogue is sometimes terse and often vulgar.  Mamet's profanity is not employed for shock value, but is rather an integral component of his characters' "profane poetry", which, according to frequent collaborator Gregory Mosher, "worked the iambic pentameter out of the vernacular of the underclass."

The characters' sometimes vulgar lexicon, moreover, may be seen as psychologically necessary armor against their brutal environment. The parenthetical stage directions are straightforward and do not provide line readings.

Heart of glass

Once I had a love and it was a gas
Soon turned out had a heart of glass
Seemed like the real thing, only to find
Much of mistrust, love's gone behind
Once I had a love and it was divine
Soon found out I was losing my mind
It seemed like the real thing but I was so blind
Much of mistrust, love's gone behind

In between
What I find is pleasing and I'm feeling fine
Love is so confusing there's no peace of mind
If I fear I'm losing you it's just no good
You teasing like you do

Once I had a love and it was a gas
Soon turned out had a heart of glass
Seemed like the real thing, only to find
Much of mistrust, love's gone behind

Once I had a love and it was divine
Soon found out I was losing my mind
It seemed like the real thing but I was so blind
Much of mistrust, love's gone behind

Lost inside
Adorable illusion and I cannot hide
I'm the one you're using, please don't push me aside
We could've made it cruising, yeah

Yeah, riding high on love's true bluish light
Once I had a love and it was a gas
Soon turned out I had a heart of glass
Seemed like the real thing only to find
Much of mistrust, love's gone behind

I Talk to the Wind

I Talk to the Wind
Said the straight man to the late man
Where have you been
I've been here and I've been there
And I've been in between.

I talk to the wind
My words are all carried away
I talk to the wind
The wind does not hear
The wind cannot hear.

I'm on the outside looking inside
What do I see
Much confusion, disillusion
All around me.

You don't possess me
Don't impress me
Just upset my mind
Can't instruct me or conduct me
Just use up my time

I talk to the wind
My words are all carried away
I talk to the wind
The wind does not hear
The wind cannot hear.

Opening Day Today

photography exhibition \ Argyris Drolapas

The Charity Organization ‘Give Hope’ is inaugurating its new offices in the center of Athens (66 Vas. Sofias Avenue) with a series of cultural events. Apart from the organization’s aid to the vulnerable groups of society and its support to cancer research, now comes a new programme of presenting the work of creative young people and upcoming artists. First on our agenda is the solo photography exhibition of Argyris Drolapas.

‘Give Hope’ is proud to present the first solo show of Drolapas showing images of Athens that he captures as he roams the city, observing daily life as a spectator. Statues of the city take on an astral dimension, but at the same time try to keep hold of their earthly shadow… His subject matter includes animate and inanimate objects, those that appear to be coming from a parallel universe. His photographs are taken out of a “different reality”, an imaginary world that only sometimes becomes alive around us.

Opening: 16 March 2012 - 2000 Hours

Exhibition Duration: 17 March – 4 April 2012
For more information please contact us here: ‘Give Hope’ Charity Organization,

Macbeth

Macbeth / Μακμπέθ

The Tragedy of Macbeth (commonly called Macbeth) is a tragedy by William Shakespeare about a man who commits regicide so as to become king and then commits further murders to maintain his power.

The play clearly demonstrates the corrupting effect of ambition, but also deals with the relationship between cruelty and masculinity, tyranny and kingship, treachery, violence, guilt, prophecy, and disruption of the natural order.

The play is believed to have been written sometime between 1603 and 1607. The earliest account of a performance of what was probably Shakespeare's play is April 1611, when Simon Forman recorded seeing such a play at the Globe Theatre. Macbeth is Shakespeare’s shortest and bloodiest tragedy, and tells the story of a brave Scottish general named Macbeth who receives a prophecy from a trio of witches that one day he will become King of Scotland.

Consumed by ambition and spurred to action by his wife, Macbeth murders King Duncan and takes the throne for himself. His reign is racked with guilt and paranoia, and he soon becomes a tyrannical ruler as he is forced to commit more and more murders to protect himself from enmity and suspicion.  The bloodbath swiftly takes Macbeth and Lady Macbeth into realms of arrogance, madness, and death.

Shakespeare's source for the tragedy are the accounts of King Macbeth of Scotland, Macduff, and Duncan in Holinshed's Chronicles (1587), a history of England, Scotland and Ireland familiar to Shakespeare and his contemporaries. However, the story of Macbeth as told by Shakespeare bears little relation to real events in Scottish history, as Macbeth was an admired and able monarch.

In the backstage world of theatre, some believe that the play is cursed, and will not mention its title aloud, referring to it instead as "the Scottish play". Over the course of many centuries, the play has attracted some of the greatest actors in the roles of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. It has been adapted to film, television, opera, novels, comic books, and other media.

The Blue Hour

The clouds, they go their way
With indifference to us
A melancholy light
The ghost of Summer past
The moon relieves the sun
Across the evening sky
And here we come undone
And here we say goodbye

Take the last kiss from my lips
Take the last look at my face
And then surrender all we have
Or I will never walk away

The whispers in the bough
Are but rumours on the wind
This love was never ours
And yet we took it in
The headstones mark the lost
Erased by time and tide
Ashes cast to sea
Blow back as memories..
